One of our three parallel classes has been permanently established as a bilingual class. We have been successfully training bilingual pupils for over 10 years.

Why “Bilingualism”?

• Who does not want to be able to switch between languages easily?
• Who does not want to know how to avoid “blunders” abroad?
• Who does not want to be ahead of fellow applicants in studies and professions?

The bilingually educated students acquire an extended foreign language and intercultural competence. With the Abitur, they receive a certificate from the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. Besides, we certify them as foreign language level C 1 (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) if they complete an English language course at the same time.

How is bilingual teaching organized?

In the bilingual class, after a preparatory English lesson, the student switches to the classroom. 5/6 the language of instruction in Social Science subjects is English. This begins step by step with Geography in Kl. 7 and with History/Social Studies in Grade 9. From Grade 10, all three subjects are taught in the so-called “Bili course”. Occasionally other subjects (e. g. Biology) can be taught bilingually in modules.

How do I know whether my child is suitable for the bilingual stream?

• My child loves to read.
• My child likes to share.
• My child can be persevering and is – according to age – resilient.
• My child is interested in how “the world works” (in the social sense).
• My child has good grades in German, English (as far as stated in the certificate), and expertise.
